ramblings, rantings, and ravings of a bemused mind

Week so far : Sunday : bum around most of the day, B was out with her mom looking for dresses...went to Steve & Cathy's in the afternoon for dinner and cake for their oldest daughter's 20th birthday. I forgot my veggie burgers, so dinner consisted of a plate of Caesar salad and beers. Five, I think. Shoulda limited myself to three, 'cause...
Monday : Since we're trying to operate on one car, I have the genius idea of scheduling a cab to drive me to the train station. At 4:30am. I did not get a good night's sleep (kept dreaming I overslept/missed the train, then waking up with an increasingly nasty taste of beers and smoke in my mouth), yet somehow I managed to stumble out the door at 4:30 to wait for the cab. I was a little concerned they'd forget about me, which is why I grabbed my keys as I went outside, so I wouldn't be locked out of the house. But no worries there, the cab pulled up to the house at EACTLY 4:30. Cool! Drove the 2 1/2 miles to the train station and got reamed by the cab driver for ten bucks. WTF! Ok, I know gas is expensive, but that's highway robbery. Use a little lube next time, buddy! Too tired to argue, I paid the guy, bought my train ticket and then waited around for the 5:14 train. Got to work at 6, but I barely had the energy to turn on my computer, let alone get much work done. So getting up early wasn't so bright, but at least I was at work and I could leave at 2 to catch the train and I wouldn't be short any hours. Then Bethany calls me at 9 to ask where I left her car keys. They should be hanging on the keyring, next to mine. 'Cept they aren't..but mine are there, because I fucking took HER car keys instead of MY keys when my tired-and-slightly-hungover ass was leaving at 4:30! FUUUUCCCK! So Charlotte missed school, I had to leave work earlier than planned and walk home from the train station (which only took about half an hour) and I basically wasted the day being too tired to get anything done. Genius.

Today was ok though, I have Steve's truck to use over the next couple of days, I was productive at work, the kids and I had a semi-successful Target shop, and I'm getting to bed in a few minutes hopefully.

For the rest of the week : I have to go to DMV tomorrow and transfer registration from the dead Geo to the Toyota my sister is donating to the McFarmister Fund, hopefully that'll go over ok. I need to make up my hours for the week tomorrow AND make it home in time to catch the season premiere of Lost (which I am all caught up on, thanks Netflix!). Thursday I need to prepare for our trip and get the kids to Meet the Author night at school, if possible. Friday we're leaving early in the morn to drive down to the big VA, visit with my folks Friday night, get the car, and then travel up to NoVA on Saturday for some nuptials D-match style. I'm hoping I got all the shit for this week over with on Monday, and this weekend will go smoothly. Like Bethany be over being sick and have energy to enjoy herself, the kids will behave themselves AND have fun even, we'll have enough money for gas AND the hotel AND food, and we'll have no automobile or traffic trouble on the rides to and from Virginia. Knock on wood...

I'm really looking forward to getting my car and seeing P&V get married and hopefully spending some quality time with the wife & kids, so I'm gonna stop worrying about the other stuff now. Ok.

Labor Day Weekend came and went - attended a few BBQs, drank some beers, played a little v-ball, watched a little of the carnage and chaos and sadness that was the Katrina coverage, and became increasingly dismayed at "my" government's inability to get their shit together and assist the New Orleans victims in any meaningful way. It become more and more apparent that the the only things the fucknuggets running this country are good at is detaining inpoverished brown-skinned people and awarding big contracts to their friends' companies to do clean-up. And what the fuck happened to firing Karl Rove?!

Work is still crazy for some reason, I don't really know why everything's been so f'ed up lately, but my guess is there are multiple factors all leading to me running around all day instead of slacking my workday away like the gods intended. Fu-uck!

Bethany just called and informed me that we missed the season premiere of the O.C. That ain't cool. Way to advertise there, Fox! The O.C. is one of three series I planned to watch this season (going crazy on the Lost Season One DVDs btw, thanks for asking). I mean what, the guy who does all the "This week, on the Ohhhhhhh....Ceeeeeeehhhh..." voiceovers didn't come back from summer vacation, so you guys decided not to advertise the season premiere? Now my whole Fall TV Season is fucked up. I haven't even figured out if I'm gonna try to follow Smallville this season or not, and you needledicks have to be all stealth with the O.C. premiere. Shitbags.

I swear that guy sounds like he's about to fucking cream his shorts at the thought of all the highjinks taking place among the witty, horny, outsider-ish teens of Orange County. "The Ohhhhhhhhh....Ceeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!"
